There are some albums that you wonder why you never hear them on the radio. This is one of them. The answer probably lies in the inability to pigeon-hole the sound. A good band has the ability to tip their hands as to who influences them but then make the sound their own. As you listen, you can hear shades of Counting Crows, Alice in Chains, and Sting, to name a few. The end result is a collection of fresh songs that are diverse, deep, and very satisfying. There is an O. Henry influence in the poetic "My Glass Eye"--"My Glass Eye and your wooden leg, if I carry you home will you show me the way?" The mambo-like "King of the Ditch" sounds like something you would find on a T. Bone Burnette album. "Rainin' in New Orleans" is a Cajun lament while the Mellencamp-esque "Waiting in the Fire" would sound at home on any FM station in the country. Lonesome Romeos sound is most their own on the first track "Sonny's Day".The playing on the album is well thought out and executed perfectly. Robert Parlee's vocals stand out on all the tracks. Again, you wonder why you haven't heard him before and why this band has not gotten wider exposure. It is a great album and would fit into almost any album collection.
