I actually had this book many years ago, and made the mistake of borrowing it to someone at my Parish Church, who then never gave it back. So when I saw it was available on Amazon for a good price I just had to get it.Fulton Sheen is man well known and loved among Catholics, and this book, which manages to condense a lot of spiritual thought into a pocket book proves why he was considered one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) Catholic Apologists of all time.Bishop Sheen explains in detail the Seven Capital Sins, why they are so harmful to us spiritually, and also explains how Our Lord repudiated, and atoned for, each and every one of these Sins for us, during His Passion.Sets you back on your heels with his precise explanations and then almost brings you to tears with hisartistic descriptions. I have read many of his books and this one is one of his BEST?You you haven't read Sheen before this is definetly the one to start with. You will read it quickly and then want to go back again to read his wise words again, no again. This was originally broadcast as a series in 1939. This man was well before his time and we need him now more than ever.As I age, I keep exploring my faith and am continually amazed at how little I know. We say, "we're all sinners" but do we actually know what constitutes a sin. Many of us feel that we really don't sin at all! This book will open your eyes to what real sin is about. And yes eventhough we're all sinners, we are not excused from attempting to be the best people we can be. My eyes were opened. I will reread this book to grasp all of the content. Every adult would do well to read this book. This book is going to take a very LONG TIME to read.Every sentence or paragraph must be read several times in order to fully digest the entire meaning.I wish it would be made into a documentary styled film, and hope to see Fulton Sheen sainted in my lifetime.Absolutely love this book. Bought it for Lenten reading and it really had a profound effect on my "journey". Bishop Sheen has a way with words that make the most difficult concept so easy to grasp. This is a book that I will read often; the lessons are timeless and not just for Lent. I'm planning to buy additional copies to give to others. Really, really good book, and the best I've found on the capital sins. The writings and recordings of the Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen applies today as it did generations ago. He can still get through to people today. Anyone who can write to the extent he did and have it make sense, shows how dedicated and close he was to Christ and His Most Blessed Mother. Archbishop Sheen is most definitely a devoted Servant of God.Great to still be able to obtain his books. He is truly inspiring with his common sense approach and his words are as inspiring today as they were in his prime on TV.Fr. Fulton J. Sheen was remarkable. His sermons were so effective in bring many to the One True Faith. Hisbooks are all marvelous. I highly recommend all of his work to Catholics and to the general public who areinterested in knowing about God.This is the first time I have read anything by Mgr Sheen - but it won't be the last! His treatment of the Seven Capital ("Deadly") Sins is scholarly yet easily accessible, with or without a Bible to hand. His style is, by 21st Century standards, a trifle dated, but his passion to communicate the teachings of Holy Church and shepherd its members gently onto the correct path is masterly.I learned a very great deal - about sin, myself, and God's saving Grace - and found myself meditating on each chapter, so this book has a clear use as Lectio Divina either as an individual or as part of a study group.Highly recommended.Great qualityArchbishop Fulton J. Sheen never fails to deliver - I love his pithy comments, his wisdom and understanding.Anyone who reads this will have a much better idea of how damaging sin - and particularly the 7 Deadlies - are tothe soul. I highly recommend this and anything else he's written. He has an authenticity and wittiness difficult torefute.all capital sins are profoundly explained by bishop Fulton J. Sheen. Could be a great gift that will lead to conversions.
